Lima Primary students celebrated Flag Day this morning, honoring military, law enforcement and EMT family members who help keep our communities safe. Then it was time for the annual Teddy Bear Picnic, where families shared lunch, laughter and playground memories with their little ones and their favorite stuffed friends. #WeAreHFL 🐾💛

🎓 Congratulations to HF-L High School's Class of 2026 Valedictorian, Hazel Jokl, and Salutatorian, Elliana Davis!

The honors were announced this week during the Cougar Celebrations ceremony, recognizing their outstanding academic achievements and dedication throughout their high school careers.

This fall, Hazel will attend Colgate University to study biomedical sciences, while Elliana will attend Cornell University to study environment and sustainability.

Their hard work, perseverance, and commitment to excellence have left a lasting mark on the HF-L community. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition, and best wishes as they begin the next chapter of their educational journeys! #WeAreHFL 🎓🐾

Today, the Class of 2026 returned to the halls where their HF-L story began. As Pomp and Circumstance echoed through every building, students walked the halls one last time—high-fiving little hands, sharing smiles, and soaking in every moment.

At Manor, our youngest Cougars lined the halls chanting “HF-L! HF-L!” as seniors passed by—creating one of those full-circle moments you can’t quite put into words. A reminder that while this chapter is ending, the impact they leave behind reaches every corner of our district.

We are beginning the development of HF-L’s Portrait of a Graduate. A Portrait of a Graduate is a shared vision that defines the skills, knowledge, and personal qualities students should develop during their time in school in order to be successful after graduation.

This work helps guide what we value most in student learning and growth, ensuring our schools are preparing students not only academically, but also as confident, capable, and contributing members of their communities.

Your input is an important part of this process. We invite you to share your perspective on what you believe HF-L students should know and be able to do when they leave our schools.

Our students had a great time exploring and creating today! Thank you to our volunteers who helped make this event a success. We even had a visit from the Livingston County Sheriff's K-9 Unit, giving students an opportunity to learn about their important work in our community.

What happens when you turn an entire school into a maker space? 🎨🤖🌱✨

Maker Faire 2026 took over Lima Primary today with a day full of creativity, curiosity, and hands-on fun! From 3D printing, stop-motion animation, LEGO building, and friendship bracelets to yoga, face painting, glitter hair, and "The Floor is Lava," our youngest learners spent the day exploring, creating, and imagining.

The smiles were big, the ideas were endless, and the creativity was off the charts! 💛🖤 #WeAreHFL

Congratulations to Megan P. on being named a recipient of the BOE's Cougar Pride Award! Megan was nominated by Virginia Kukaj-Hartman & Katie Kress, who noted the following: We are proud to nominate Megan for the Cougar Pride Award. She has shown exceptional dedication through her work on the yearbook, consistently going above and beyond to support her peers and contribute to something meaningful for the school community. As the yearbook advisors, we can honestly say that we would have been lost without her this year. Megan is responsible, thoughtful, and truly wise beyond her years. She has a genuine desire to bring the Class of 2026 together, always encouraging inclusivity and positivity. Her uplifting attitude and strong sense of commitment make her an outstanding representative of Cougar Pride. She will truly will be missed next year as she heads off to college. #WeAreHFL

Our kindergarten students put on a fantastic performance of Rumble in the Jungle today! We are so proud of their confidence, enthusiasm, and hard work. Thank you to our staff and families for supporting this special event. Well done, kindergarten—you were amazing! #WEareHFL

Congratulations to Zachary Clarry on being named a recipient of the BOE's Cougar Pride Award! Clarry was nominated by Abigail W. who noted the following: "Mr. Clarry goes above and beyond for his students. He is one of the nicest teachers I have ever met, he checks in on certain students if he knows they may have issues and instead of dismissing certain issues, he likes to talk about them and he would like to see everyone’s view. Whenever we may feel upset or nervous about something, he gives really good pep talks and/or reassurance about it. He worries about his students too, whenever I emailed him saying I would be absent, he would check in and he would seem worried. Mr. Clarry is very flexible with projects, allowing students to share their ideas and choose how they present their work as long as it’s appropriate. He gives great feedback and treats every student with kindness and respect no matter how wrong they’ve been." #WeAreHFL

Civic readiness in action.

Last night, students and staff members from the District Code of Conduct Committee presented the proposed 2026-27 Code of Conduct during a public hearing at the Board of Education meeting.

The conversation highlighted how the Code of Conduct, Habits of Mind, and the district’s developing Portrait of a Graduate are all connected — working together to support student growth and success. #WeAreHFL

Congratulations to Debbie Kummer on being named a recipient of the BOE's Cougar Pride Award! Kummer was nominated by Andrew Vetter who noted the following, "Debbie Kummer has been running the district clarinet choir for more than 30 years. The first 10 she did not have a faculty advisor. She is a great person to work with and instills a love of music in all the kids that have played in clarinet choir." #WeAreHFL
