As we prepare for a stretch of high temperatures next week, we want to assure you that the health, safety, and academic well-being of our students and staff remain our top priorities. In accordance with New York State law and our district’s emergency planning, we are implementing proactive measures to manage indoor heat conditions across all school buildings.
What You Need to Know:
Heat Alert Threshold: When indoor temperatures reach 82°F, we will:
Turn off unnecessary lights and electronics
Close blinds to reduce heat gain
Increase airflow with fans and open windows (where safe)
Provide frequent water breaks and access to hydration stations
Adjust physical activity schedules (e.g., postpone outdoor recess or PE)
Extreme Heat Condition: If indoor temperatures reach 88°F or higher, we will:
Relocate students and staff to cooler, air-conditioned areas
Consider early dismissal or remote learning if safe relocation is not feasible
Notify families promptly through our electronic messaging system and website
Coordinate with transportation for safe student return
Building Cooling Capacity:
Lima Primary: Most areas are centrally air-conditioned.
Manor School: 19 classrooms, the cafeteria, library, main office, and nurse’s office are air-conditioned.
Middle School: 22 classrooms, the cafeteria, auditorium, library, nurses’ offices, and counseling suite are air-conditioned.
High School: All areas used for student testing are fully air-conditioned.
While we do not anticipate needing to dismiss early, we want families to be aware that this remains a possibility if conditions become too extreme. We will continue to monitor temperatures closely and communicate any changes as early as possible.
How You Can Help:
We kindly ask parents and guardians to ensure that students are dressed appropriately for warm weather. Please also send your child to school with a refillable water bottle each day to help them stay hydrated throughout the day.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work to keep our students safe and comfortable.
Warm regards,
Gene Mancuso
Superintendent of Schools
